After a week of big ticket reforms the UPA 2 seems to have woken up from its self-imposed slumber. Even while the fate of UPA 2 and the impeding political alignment still in speculation, the Government seems to be in a referendum mood and clearly it is engaging the media and people to drive home that the hard hitting reforms are only for the long term good. Close on the heels of India's Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh's passionate address to the nation, the Government is tapping on to the Social Media for its advantage.
In a surprising move, the Government has announced that it will be holding first ever Press Conference on Twitter today between 3.30 to 4.15 PM in which Sam Pitroda, advisor to PM on innovation and public information infrastructure will answer the media through his twitter handle @pitrodasam. Sam Pitroda will restrict the queries on the theme' democratization of information'.
It is interesting the government a couple of months ago was caught in an intense debate on moderating Social Media content and went to the extent of challenging biggies like Facebook, Twitter and Google. The social media press conference slated today is the first serious effort by the ailing UPA 2 government to handhold with the media and the larger people and many see it as a right move in the right direction in garnering the much needed credibility and governance quotient.
